On July 23, an agreement was signed at SSU, according which the members would establish a consortium in the Infocommunication Technologies and the Element Base of Terahertz Micro- and Nanoelectronics strategic section for the Development Programme of Saratov State University.

The ceremony was attended by SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko, Deputy General Director of JSC Research and Production Centre Almaz-Fazotron JSC Victor Posadskii, Deputy General Director of Research and Production Enterprise Almaz JSC Konstantin Kozlov.

Director of the Institute of Radioengineering and Electronics RAS Sergei Nikitov joined the meeting online. General Director of Molecular Electronics Research Institute JSC Gennadii Krasnikov also signed up the agreement.

‘The reason for this meeting was the university participation in the Priority 2030 programme, one of the points of which is the establishment of such a consortium. It is important that the university cooperation with the regional enterprises has been going on for over 60 years. The key specialists working in this area is physicists. They confirm their professionalism by implementing innovative products, projects, and competitions. Quite recently, our young researchers have won grants from the Russian President, among them there are 4 physicists,’ the SSU rector noted.

Aleksei Chumachenko hoped that the cooperation will be useful both as for the university and its graduates and for enterprises – potential employers.

‘We found a gap in the market – this is space industry, until the early 90s the satellites of the Soviet Union contained French-made equipment, we have an opportunity to develop this industry, but we do not have enough research personnel. Therefore, it is very important for us to cooperate with Saratov Univeristy,’ Konstantin Kozlov said.

According to Victor Posadskii, microwave electronics is still in demand today.

‘All domestic aircraft have our device. Young specialists can be highly interested to join to development projects, so due to the consortium we are going to hire personnel willing to work in this area. More than 75% of the heads of research and production divisions of our organisation are graduates of Saratov University. In the nearest future, new vacancies will appear, which will surely be demanded by young specialists,’ the deputy general director of Almaz-Fazotron Research and Production Centre stressed.

The consortium aim is to conduct research and develop innovations in priority areas of vacuum, solid-state, and quantum electronics as well as practical training of the university students.
