On September 21, Saratov University hosted a meeting of SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko with the university athletes– prize-winners of all-Russian and international championships in various sports disciplines. Among them are two-time bronze medal owner of the XVI Paralympic Summer Games in Tokyo 2021 Julia Shishova and a multiple winner of the NSFL Championship, winner of the 2018 World University Championship, the playing coach of the SSU national football team Alan Dryayev. The event was held by Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Organisational Work Anton Golovchenko and Director of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training Nailya Brilyonok.
SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko congratulated the Paralympic winner. ‘Thanks to Julia's victory, the name of Saratov University has been heard in the international arena. This is a serious achievement for us, which undoubtedly glorifies our university and confirms the high level of training of our athletes,’ he stressed.
In turn, Julia shared her impressions of participating in the competition. For her, this achievement became a powerful incentive for further growth and development of professional skills. To note, in Tokyo, she won her award in swimming in the women’s 50m backstroke S3.
Head of the SSU Sports Club Vladimir Gordeyev focused on the key sports championships where our students participated. Among them were the Regional Spartakiade in 30 sports disciplines, the National Student Football League, city and regional competitions. ‘Kira Stepanova, Alexander Loginov, Nikita Porshnev – all these guys are graduates of our university and international champions. Now Julia Shishova is among the best, she became one of the medal winners at the championship in Tokyo,’ Vladimir Gordeyev added.
Chair of the Student Sports Club Alexander Nevryuev commented on the significance of both professional and amateur sports. ‘It is important that the university administration supports the initiatives of our students and provides the necessary support to the pioneers of the sports movement,’ he said.
Alan Dryaev, the coach of the SSU national football team, spoke about the participation of the SSU national team in the National Student Football League Championship in 2021 and plans for the new season. Our athletes are to participate in the World University Championships in November this year in Rome (Italy) and play with the reigning champions of the NSFL – Crimean Federal University.
World-class Master of Sports in kickboxing Vrezh Petrosyan congratulated Julia on her victory and spoke about his immediate plans. The current volleyball and basketball team captains Viktor Ermakov and Alexander Nikishin commented on their teams’ achievements.
In conclusion, Aleksei Chumachenko wished the athletes good luck in conquering new peaks.
