Marathon of Professional Development Started in Saratov University

Saratov University has once again launched a large-scale career guidance project titled the Marathon of Professional Development. This is a set of events that provides students with an opportunity to find out about various companies and enterprises of Saratov and Saratov Region, meet with potential employers, and ask all questions to those who have already achieved some success in the professional field. Such a marathon at the university is held twice a year – in spring and autumn.

The objectives of the project are vocational guidance for students, popularisation of professions and specialties demanded by the labour market, motivation for internships at enterprises of Saratov Region, promotion of employment in accordance with the students’ major, organisation of secondary employment of students.

The Marathon of Professional Development will take place from 11 to 30 October. As part of the project, students will visit employers' sites at face-to-face and online excursions, which will be held from 11 to 17 October as part of the Week Without Turngates All-Russian campaign. There are plans for more than 50 meetings with employers, master classes, excursions, off-site lectures, panel discussions, and presentations. Students will visit such enterprises as Contact R&D Enterprise, Site Enterprise, Printing Plant, Miner Ltd., Oilgasservice Saratov Ltd., JSC Waste Management, and others. Future teachers will visit Gymnasium № 1, Solaris Secondary School Solaris, Solar Country Kindergarten №144, Children Choral School named after M.V. Teltevskaya, Biomedical Lyceum, etc. A complete list of activities can be found in the appendix.

From October 18 until the end of the month, the marathon will continue with the Employment Week campaign. During this period, students will meet with employers at university. It is planned to hold about 60 events in on- and off-site. Schlumberger Technological Company, Bohemia and Slovakia Hotels, Saratovoilgasextraction Ltd., Ruble Boom Group of Companies, Sibintek Investment Company, Akripol Ltd., Norilsk Nickel Ltd., etc., joined the project. Students will be able to meet with representatives of travel companies and banks, researchers, businessmen from the catering and entertainment sectors. All this will help them get used to their future profession, feel themselves part of the professional community, and better understand their desires and capabilities. The Employment Week programme is presented in the appendix.

The project moderator is the Regional Centre of Graduate Employment and Labour Market Adaptation of SSU graduates together with the institutes, the faculties, the colleges, and the student associations of the university. The moderators invite students to actively participate in the ongoing career guidance events. This is a real opportunity not only to determine the professional field but also to subsequently find your employer.
