Rector Aleksei Chumachenko today, on December 16, took part in a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the National Student Football League (NSFL). The meeting took place at the site of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. At the event, the results of the season were summed up, outstanding achievements and victories of the year were noted, and awards were presented.
Annually, the National Student Football League nominates three university rectors for the title of the Best Rector of the Year. According to the results of this season, the rector of Saratov University became in the short-list of the best ones. He was given the commemorative statuette by President of the International Student Football Union and Chair of the NSFL Board of Trustees Ali Alkhanov.
‘It is unexpected and very flattering. Each of us succeeds in everything, or at least a lot, if there are those nearby who share your opinion, who fully understand you. I can say that I have such a team at Saratov University. Indeed, this is a team that does not just work but does everything to make the ideas that we come up with together come true – fin education, and science, and, of course, in sports. It is up to us,’ Aleksei Chumachenko said.
The rector emphasised that the National Student Football League is the best not only due to the efforts of the athletes but also due to the tremendous work of the league administration who helps student teams go international. Aleksei Chumachenko thanked the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for the support.
To remind, this year the SSU team has won the football tournament as part of the VI International Interuniversity Championship, which took place in Rome, and replicated its success in 2018.
Summing up the results of the season, NSFL President Andrei Stukalov drew the attention of the members of the Board of Trustees to the existing problems that are still worth finding solutions to. It was about the quality of coatings at university football stadiums. The president noted that many universities lease city fields for games. And in this regard, the NSFL sees new tasks for the development of the infrastructure of universities for student sports.
The meeting ended with watching a video clip prepared by the SSU Film Studio which collected bright moments of the brilliant performance of the SSU football players at the championship in Italy.
