This year, in Saratov Region there is a noticeable increase in the application rate in technical schools and colleges. It was announced live on August 8 by the local Deputy Prime Minister – the Minister of Education of the region Mikhail Orlov.

The growth of the application rate is also noticeable in the SSU colleges. ‘Secondary vocational education is still demanded. By now, about 2,000 people have applied to the SSU colleges,’ the Vice-Rector for Secondary Vocational Education and Social Work Olga Nesterova noted.

At Geology College, the application rate for the course in construction and operation of gas and oil pipelines and gas and oil storages has almost tripled compared to last year. In addition, the leader this year has become the course in land management. The rate for these courses is 7 people per place. The courses in geology and exploration of oil and gas fields and in applied geodesy retain their positions: here the application rate is more than 5 people per place.

The rate for the course in installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial equipment has also increased. ‘This is a new promising course. In the geological sphere, it is important to have technical specialists who can adjust equipment, operate it competently, and help repair it. I am glad that this course is becoming more popular,’ the vice-rector emphasised. A new workshop has been created at the college where the students will be able to acquire professional skills for this course.

Olga Nesterova notes the wide geography of the college applicants. ‘Our students come from Primorsky Krai, Tyumen, Moscow, and Moscow Region.’

This year, the application rates for the IT courses of the College of Radioelectronics in network and system administration and in Information systems and programming have decreased, and they have lost their leadership positions. ‘The highest rate in the College of Radioelectronics this year is for the course in maintenance and repair of electronic equipment. It breaks all the records – 7 people per place!’ Olga Nesterova said.

There is an increase in demand for the course in installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment, the rate for which has equalled the IT courses.

The rates for the courses in the technology of metalworking production and technical operation and maintenance of electrical and electromechanical equipment have also increased. They make up more than three people per place. This is largely due to the popularisation of engineering jobs and the growing demand for specialists in industry.

To remind, in the College of Radioelectronics and Geology College, the number of the admissions places has increased this year – by 65 places in total. In particular, the number of places for the course geology and exploration of oil and gas fields has doubled.
