In Memory of Rimma Chernova

On February 1, 2021 Rimma Chernova passed away at the age of 82. She was Merited Researcher of the Russian Federation and had a terminal degree in chemistry. Having been an SSU honoured professor, Rimma Chernova worked as Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chair of the Department of Analytical Chemistry for many years.

Rimma Kuzminichna was born on May 16, 1938 in Smolensk in a family of doctors. In 1951, she and her family moved to the city of Saratov. In 1955 she graduated from high school №1 with a gold medal. In 1960, after graduating with honors from the Faculty of Chemistry of SSU, she entered graduate school; in 1963 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on "Solid indicator microelectrodes in amperometry"; from 1964 she worked as an assistant, and from 1967 - as an assistant professor of the Department of Inorganic Chemistry at SSU. In 1968–69. graduated from French language courses (Moscow), trained in France (University in Montpellier); in 1969–70 - Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry of the Higher Technical Institute (Cambodia, Phnom Penh).

Upon returning to Saratov University in 1971, she was elected head of the Department of Analytical Chemistry; she worked in this position until 2012. From 1985 to 1995 she was dean of the Faculty of Chemistry at SSU. Since 1982 - Doctor of Chemistry (doctoral dissertation "Effects of hydrophobic interactions in systems: organic reagents - surfactants - metal ions and their significance for analysis" defended in 1981 at the State Geological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences), since 1984 - professor; since 1992 - corresponding member RANS. From 1985 to the present - member of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Analytical Chemistry; from 1990 to 1999 - member of the Bureau of this Council; from 1985 to 1995 - a member of the educational and methodological association of universities (UMO); since 1995 - member of the Board of the D.I. Mendeleev; at the same time - Chairman of the Volga Branch of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Analytical Chemistry; member of a number of editorial boards, dissertation councils, delegate to the 17th Congress of Trade Unions of the USSR.

For the successes achieved in pedagogical, scientific and social activities, R.K. Chernov was awarded the honorary title "Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation" (2006), awarded a diploma of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation for training scientific personnel (2001), signs "Inventor of the USSR", "Winner of the social. competition ”, the medal“ Veteran of Labor ”, the medal“ For Commonwealth in the Field of Chemical Disarmament ”, the Certificate of Honor of the Governor of the Saratov Region“ For many years of conscientious work in the system of higher professional education ”, the jubilee medal“ For Special Services to SSU ”. Since 2010 R.K. Chernov - Honorary Professor of SSU. In 2017, R.K. Chernov received the Vysota award for teachers of Saratov universities.

Under the guidance of Professor R.K. The rough team of the department was the executor of the most important state budget topics for the scientific and technical programs of the USSR State Committee for Science and Technology, through the USSR Council of Ministers for the military-industrial complex. For the implementation of the last topic, a team of employees under the leadership of R.K. Chernovaya was awarded the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. For the first time in Saratov, a complex of works on assessing the impact of economic activities on the environment was mastered and used to prepare design documentation on the problem of the destruction of chemical weapons (order of the RF Ministry of Defense). In 2000-2001. R.K. Chernov was an expert in this area within the international program "Tacis". During the years of her leadership, on the basis of the department, 10 all-Russian conferences, an offsite meeting of the Bureau of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on analytical chemistry were held, the staff of the department defended 9 doctoral dissertations. The department has become known throughout the Russian Federation and at the international level.

Scientific interests of R.K. Roughing are multifaceted. She developed a theory of the action of organic analytical reagents in supramolecular self-organizing media simulated by surfactants, which has a prognostic character. New methods have been developed for determining traces of inorganic and organic toxicants in natural and industrial objects, the efficiency of which has been increased by more than 50%. New approaches have been developed to the creation of electrophoretic test systems for amino acids, test systems using melange xerogels and new reagents. The cycle of work on test systems was awarded a silver medal at the IV Saratov Salon of Inventions, Innovations and Investments.

Systemic studies (together with Professor E.G. Kulapina) were carried out to develop ionometric sensors sensitive to surfactants of various classes, antibiotics, amino acids, and other biologically active substances. Micellar-catalytic reactions to organic analytes were investigated, regularities of interaction of reactants in nanoreactors - surfactant micelles were revealed, generalizations were made and forecasts of further application of such systems in the analysis of drugs were given.

Rimma Kuzminichna Chernova - author of more than 500 scientific publications, five monographs, 40 copyright certificates and patents; 13 teaching aids; supervisor of 22 dissertations, scientific consultant of four doctoral dissertations, received grants from international and Russian foundations.

Rimma Kuzminichna was distinguished by her breadth of interests. She was talented not only as an outstanding scientist, but also as a poet, artist, teacher. Her responsiveness and true intelligence became an example for numerous students who develop the ideas of their teacher, fruitfully working in various fields of chemical science. Rimma Kuzminichna was an erudite person, a brilliant orator, an outstanding lecturer, the personification of academic ideals, a caring and demanding scientific mother of a whole galaxy of analytical scientists.

In the scientific and student community, Rimma Kuzminichna has always enjoyed great respect and authority. Rimma Kuzminichna was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. In the memory of many generations of the university, the bright image of Rimma Kuzminichna's husband, mathematician Igor Alekseevich Chernov, is preserved. This was a beautiful couple, passionate about science, teaching, social life, creativity.

The bright memory of Rimma Kuzminichna will forever remain in the hearts of all those who knew her.
